picThanks to all those who made Old Town Carnival Week such a great success. Ian and Carol as usual did a great job and we thank them for all their work over the years which has helped developed the week into the highlight of the town’s calendar.
Thank you for your support for the raffle the lucky winner of £50 was Mr W. H.   Oldfield.

Ian Writes: Old Town Carnival Week, this year, was yet another resounding success with relatively good weather and record attendances.
The highlight of the week was the Pirate Day. Roger Crouch formed a skull & crossbones of live pirates on the beach.  Hastings is still the official holder of the world record of having the largest number of pirates in one place. Penzance’s attempt to beat our record is not yet authenticated, HASTINGS IS STILL “THE CHAMPION”.
Alastair Hendy opened No. 135 All Saints Street again this year, showing off his completed renovation project with over 600 visitors passing through his doors, donating the huge sum of £1,864.50.  Our sincere thanks to Alastair.
Sadly, Carol and I are now saying goodbye to Old Town Carnival Week after some 20 years of active involvement.   We will, however, still be around to help with the changeover, and look forward to being visitors to the events in the future. We have seen the programme for Old Town Carnival Week increase in size from an A3 folded sheet to a massive 64 page illustrated programme and transformed from a small local event to a truly international one with visitors from all over the world attending Pirate Day.
None of this would have taken place without the assistance of many local organisations and individuals, far too numerous to mention, but special thanks must be given to Anne Scott for her continued support and encouragement throughout these years and to Kevin Boorman of Hastings Borough Council who, since his appointment with the council, has assisted in every way with advice and all manner of help.
Thank you everyone – we look forward to seeing you around.                                      Ian & Carol Porter.

Goodbye and Hello at the Fishermen’s Museum
Philip Ornsby has decided to retire as Shipkeeper of the Fishermen’s Museum and we say goodbye to him at the end of October. Since Phil started with us in 2002, his friendliness, dedication and enthusiasm have helped to make the Museum one of the most popular places to visit in the Old Town. We are very grateful to him and if you are passing the Museum before he goes you might like to call in and show your appreciation.
The post of Manager/Shipkeeper has been advertised and drew in 31 applications, many of them very strong candidates. Jan Sellers has been offered and has accepted the post and will work with Phil for a week and then take over in November. We hope Jan will  enjoy the job and no doubt you will be meeting her in the weeks to come.

I apologise for the late arrival of your autumn programme. We have no organiser for our winter talks programme and I am grateful to those members of the Council of Management who have made bookings offered talks as follows:-
