At the Fishermen’s Museum, we really enjoy school visits!
But each school has different reasons for visiting and also different needs. We can cater for pretty much everything! Just ask!
We are also developing an education delivery package with an exciting addition to our resources which will hopefully be ready for the school trip season of 2025. Watch this space!
Before your visit we do ask that you please contact us and book your school in as during June and July we can get extremely busy and we can easily get overcrowded.
Our museum stays free because of people’s donations and profits from our shop which are our only source of income so to stay open and free it would be great to help us do this by making a donation for your visit. If you would like to just bring your students to walk around we would suggest a minimum donation of 50p/£1 per student.
For a full experience of the museum and the surrounding area we can give your students a talk, up on the boat, Enterprise, for primary school children. We also have a pair of authentic sea boots and a child’s size sou’wester and jacket to try on which always proves popular!
We encourage students to have questions prepared as we’ve found this helps make the talk more engaging for them.
We usually cover how the museum used to be a church and how fishing has changed from the age of sail to the modern day boats, the characters we’ve had in Hastings over the years such as Biddy the Tubman.
Usually talks last between 15 to 30 minutes. Please have a chat with us for what your requirements are.
We open at 11am but we could possibly open 10:30 for talks with a minimum donation of £40 per talk.
For a talk we suggest a minimum donation of between £30-£40. These are not fixed prices so please contact us to discuss your visit needs.
We look forward to welcoming you to our wonderful museum.

Between 2008 and 2011 a Heritage Lottery funded project, The Stade Education Project, helped attractions around the Stade to increase the number of people enjoying and learning about the cultural and environmental heritage of The Stade. Part of the project involved putting together this Education Pack for schools to help schools structure their visit. Talks on all areas by museum staff can be requested, please contact us for more information.
We are now able to make our Education Pack available as a PDF for you to download.
To make your life easier we provide a risk assessment for you to download. Our Public Liability is available on request.
